Artistic Skill Training for Colombo Children

A project on improvement on Artistic Skills of 40 children in underserved communities in two wards in Colombo Municipal Council was implemented, by SEVANATHA with support provided by The CITYNET Regional office based in seoul, Korea from May 2015 to March 2016. This project was coordinated by National Chapter of CITYNET, Sri Lanka.

These children had an opportunity to engage in Art, Music and Drama training to enhance their talents on artistic skills. Lectures attached to University of Fine Arts in Colombo joined the project as resource persons to train the children.

SEVANATHA in collaboration with the CITYNET National Chapter has organized the final presentation event of the children on 22nd March, 2016 to mark the completion of the project. The Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Eng. Thamara Mallawarachchi of Colombo Municipal Council, Local resource Persons, The Principal of the Sri Sangharaja Vidyalaya, President of SEVANATHA and the parents participated in the final event. Most of invitees requested to replicate this project in similar low income settlements in the City of Colombo to generate wider impact and better social interaction among the children and ethnically mixed communities of the City of Colombo.
