Support to Improve Community Infrastructure of Communities Affected by Recent Floods in Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat Division, Colombo District
SEVANATHA Urban Resource Centre is happy to convey the news on completion of one of its recently completed short term project “Support to Improve Community Infrastructure of Communities Affected by Recent Floods in Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat Division, Colombo District” funded by People In Need (PIN) which is a Non-Government Organization working in Sri Lanka and based in Czech Republic. The project which was commenced on 01st of September 2016 was successfully completed by the 31st December 2016 without any delays or major inconveniences.
The project was carried out mainly based in Kelanimulla and Wennawatta Grama Niladhadi Divisions in Kolonnawa DSD. The main objective of the project was to upgrade neighborhood level infrastructure of communities which were severely affected by the floods occurred in May 2016. Under the project 30 individual toilets with septic tanks were constructed for families who were severely affected from the floods in May 2016. In addition 2 km of damaged open drains were rehabilitated along with road surface improvement and 10 numbers of damaged culverts were repaired under this project resulting in approximately 3,000 number of both direct and indirect beneficiaries.
It is important to highlight the active participation and strong contribution of beneficiary families and community which enabled the successful completion of this project. SEVANATHA Urban Resource Centre takes this an opportunity to appreciate the financial assistance of People In Need (PIN) Organization, the support extended by the Divisional Secretary of Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat area and the Grama Niladhari Officers of Kelenimulla and Wennawatta GNDs and the contribution of beneficiary families and community in making this project a success.
